    Brief description of the programme/project/Initiative :
    As the name indicates, LPU e-Connect is a strong and secure online connection and common platform, specially made to cater to the needs of Distance Learners, that links the University, its Study Centres and its students located at different parts of the country and the globe. Based on enterprise web portal technology, it automates all the processes of distance education and minimizes the physical differences by providing 24*7 accessibility through its various useful features.

    Why was the project started :
    The project was started keeping in mind the following: 1. To lead the University on to a path of Any Time Any Where accessibility to minimize the physical difference/ Distance of the users of this application. 2. A system that truly automates all the processes of Distance Education 3. To make the University and its Study Centres ‘paperless’. 4. To monitor different functions and processes for better control, make analysis of the data and project the new data figures through Data Mining. 5. To cater the to the users across the globe

    Objective : Objective of LPU e-connect is to make it a boon for the students by providing them personalized learning environment as they can learn as per their convenience even with their other commitments and for the Study Centres with the accessibility of all the features, information, records and data live, on the spot, on immediate basis and without any delay.     10 points that make the programme/project innovative?

    1. Admission Connect: This module helps in storing and maintaining the centralized pool of admissions related information from Enquiry to Admissions by Study Centres and University for further accessibility, verification and rectifications at different stages with help of different forms like Enquiry Form , Followup Form, Online Admission Application, Document & Fee Verification and Various automatic reports and auto SMS.
    2. e-Communication: This system helps in building better understanding between University, Study Centres and Students with upto date and timely information with various attachments through Announcements, Personalized Messages, Running Reminders with any time accessibility and proper back up or history of data.
    3. Study Centre Connect: This system is designed for study centres registration and automatic code generation which is further linked with study centre’s Profile for upto date record keeping and further updates.
    4. Document Connect: This system helps in providing and sharing various Documents Online with different categories with Study Centres with common accessibility as well as personalized.
    5. Examination Connect: This module helps in establishing the Transparent Examination System with complete security like Sharing of Question Papers with Study Centres on the day of examination to save the time and make it efficient. It provides Date Sheet, Student Grade Card and Result, Examination Pattern, vcarious online forms like re-appear, re-evaluation etc.
    6. Student Connect: This module provide the students related information like student’s personal information, contact details, courses details, medium details, re-registration details to study centres and provide them updates rights where ever applicable.
    7. Course Connect: This module provides student’s course related information to them at various stages and give them option to select their specialization, if applicable.
    8. My Account Section: It provides accessibility to the students to their own details like their profile information, their Online Fee Receipt, their Fee Statement, their Study Centre details etc.
    9. e-Resources: It provides accessibility to the students to various academic resources as per their programme and courses like Programme Guides (Scheme and syllabi), e-Books, Assignments, Time Table etc.
    10. Other Important Administrative Module: Other modules are there to make the healthy relationship between University, students and study centres by taking valuable feed back through Feed back Form, Handling their Grievance through Grievance Cell and providing help manual to them to access various features of LPU e-Connect effectively.

    1. With LPU e-Connect, the University is able to save lots of papers in University and Study Centres to make University and its Study Centres fully paperless and purely Online.
    2. The system is now used by more than 16000 users.
    3. Online Sharing of Data, Records, Information, Updates and Important Documents for fast and better communication.
    4. Online Question Papers distribution during Examination for smooth and fast process with full security system to make the Transparent Examination system
    5. The system purely functions on Secured Socket Layer (for complete session) SSL from 128 – 256 Bit Encryption ensuring safety and privacy of the data.

    List the 5 key challenges faced while implementing the programme/project/initiative :

    1. Challenge of providing help and support to all the Study Centres and Students seating at different corners and far places of Country and resolving and trouble shooting their problems.
    2. Load on the Server. This was one of the major challenge faced. This challenge was overcome with the help of proper architecture and setting up clusters of servers at the backend. In order to ensure smooth functioning of the system, the bandwidth was also increased.
    3. Challenge of Training to Study Centres and Students: In order to put any system into place, the acceptance of the system by the end users is very much essential. By default whenever new system is implemented, lack of interest and reservations would always be there. In case of Distance Education, Distance was the biggest challenge. This was overcome with the help of training at regular intervals and providing support day and night.
    4. Security and privacy concern was another major challenge. This was overcome by the help of SSL (Secured Layer Implementation) for the complete session of the user.
    5. Data storage and backup was another challenge that was resolved with the help of SAN/NAS storage and automated backups. Proper backup policy was framed to do the backup(s) to handle the situation in case of any eventuality.

    List the 5 points how can the programme serve as a model that can be replicated or adapted by others?

    1. LPU e-Connect can be adapted by different organizations for the implementation of Online Question Papers release. With this, they can make their Examination System Fair and Fast.
    2. Online admission System can be adapted by them to have centralized pool of large data of students/ customers/ etc. which can help them manage it better.
    3. System of sharing various documents through module can be very helpful for other organizations. This will improve and streamline their systems.
    4. The system can be adapted by organizations where the e-Communication concept is used. The system can act as a model for that.
    5. Grievance Handling System can be easily adapted in the organizations like Banking, Insurance, Retail etc. where the customers have complaints, suggestions, requests, feedbacks etc.

    List 5 points to elaborate on the scalability of the programme/project/initiative :

    1.  LPU e-Connect is very scalable. Right now it is handling nearly 16,000 distinct users including University Staff, Students and Study Centres. But with the well-defined architecture we can easily move to 1,00,000 users in the future with the rapid establishment of study centres and students.
    2. Storage of the system right now is 20 TeraBytes. This is scalable to 180 Tera Bytes.
    3. The system is scalable in terms of accessibility from any kind of device like mobile phones, tablet pc, desktop etc.
    4. The central Enterprise Switch from Nortel is scalable to 720 Gbps of network throughput.
    5. LPU e-Connect to moving to new modules and projects for student’s academic support and enhancement like Chat, Forum, Online lectures, Online Attendance and administrative support to Study Centres through Online Process for Study Centre Establishment from Registration, Monitoring/Inspections to closure and Online Dispatch
